APN’s and Proxies

Posted 151 CommentsPosted in unlockit

There are a few Carriers who need a Proxy set up for them in the APN Settings. As of yet I don’t set any/give the option, but I will try and get the option added in this weekend as well for people to use (if they need it).

Update: APN Settings for Koodo Mobile have been added in which sets the Proxy as well

More carriers coming this weekend

Posted 76 CommentsPosted in unlockit

This weekend I will be adding a lot more carriers’ APNs to the website.

Also, as of yet I have not got many MMS Settings to put up but I will attempt to add a website to show the MMS Settings for the Carriers I have.

A little problem is you cannot set MMS Settings via the method I am using so you have to enter them by hand (if you can). If you can’t get into the menu to enter the MMS Settings by hand then you are a little stuck at the moment until I can work out some “easy” way of doing this.

So how did they Jailbreak my iPhone??

Posted 2 CommentsPosted in unlockit

We have all heard that all the iPhones have a Jailbreak now.. but how did they do it?

Well it was via a bug in Safari the iPhone to do with PDF’s. The biggest problem is.. anyone can do similar on your iPhone and install anything they like as well (not just the jailbreak) on stock standard iPhones by just putting some exploit code on their website.

At the moment we have to wait until Apple release a new version of software (and it won’t be jailbreakable via this method), but if you have a jailbroken phone at the moment you might want to install via Cydia the “PDF Loading Warner” which will warn you if someone else is trying to install software via the same method as www.jailbreakme.com on your iPhone does.

Letter from Apple Regarding iPhone 4

Posted 3 CommentsPosted in unlockit

Dear iPhone 4 Users,

The iPhone 4 has been the most successful product launch in Appleā€™s history. It has been judged by reviewers around the world to be the best smartphone ever, and users have told us that they love it. So we were surprised when we read reports of reception problems, and we immediately began investigating them. Here is what we have learned.

To start with, gripping almost any mobile phone in certain ways will reduce its reception by 1 or more bars. This is true of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as many Droid, Nokia and RIM phones. But some users have reported that iPhone 4 can drop 4 or 5 bars when tightly held in a way which covers the black strip in the lower left corner of the metal band. This is a far bigger drop than normal, and as a result some have accused the iPhone 4 of having a faulty antenna design.

At the same time, we continue to read articles and receive hundreds of emails from users saying that iPhone 4 reception is better than the iPhone 3GS. They are delighted. This matches our own experience and testing. What can explain all of this?

We have discovered the cause of this dramatic drop in bars, and it is both simple and surprising.

Adding MMS Settings for Carriers

Posted 65 CommentsPosted in unlockit

You cannot set MMS Settings via mobileconfig files (the method I use to set the Data Settings) so you will have to add them in my hand. I’ve had a lot of people ask me for these settings so I’ve decided to put them all in one place.

Over the next few weeks I will be adding a section to put MMS Settings for Different Carriers so you can enter them in my hand.

If you want to help and you know of (working) MMS settings) or even (Working) APN Settings which I have not got in my list please let me know and email to admin@unlockit.co.nz

MMS/APN issues after Jailbreak with redsn0w

Posted 38 CommentsPosted in unlockit

ALOT of users have been complaining about problems Installing APN/MMS Settings after they have jailbroken their iPhone 3G with resn0w.

There has been a new version of redsn0w out now (0.9.5b5-5) which (I have been told but have not tested) fixes these issues. If you already have jailbroken your iPhone 3G with an older version of redsn0w you can rerun redsn0w again and don’t choose to install cydia again and it should fix the issue.

You can download redsn0w 0.9.5-5b5
Mac Version
Windows Version

The iPhone 4 and unlockit.co.nz

Posted 76 CommentsPosted in unlockit

I need a few people to test unlockit.co.nz from their iPhone 4. I have heard that it doesn’t work properly at all (maybe a bug in the OS for the iPhone 4).

If you have either a Carrier unlocked iPhone (say from the UK) or a Carrier locked iPhone (from the USA) can you please try my website.

What I need is the syslog when you are installing it. Download the iPhone Configuration Utility from http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/

Run and with your iPhone connected try and install the file from unlockit. There will be an option in the program to see the syslog/log.
I need a copy of this log from the program (and screenshots/videos of it not working if you really want to)
